TCS PAPER ON 23rd JULY AT TRIVANDRUM Hi, this is Thomas from SCT college of Engg, Tvm. TCS was the first company to recruit from our college. Out of 327 who appeared for the test, 164 got selected for the interview, from which 125 were finally selected. Selection consisted of 2 rounds:
1. Test
2. HR cum tech interview
Test:
The test was online. You get separate login IDs, take care to remember ur ID. It consisted of 3 sections: Aptitude , Verbal and analytical reasoning. There is a timer at the top right on the screen. You can go to the next section manually if u have finished the current section (but the pending time 'will not' be carried to the next section), or it automatically goes to the next section when the timer runs out. It is better 'not' to manually go to the next section, because sometimes if u double click on the button, it will skip the next section and go to the last section. So take care of that. You can go to any qn and even change the answer within a section. The qn numbers in that section will be displayed in the right side.
Aptitude:
This is the easiest section. It consists of 38 qns to be answered in 40 mins. I knew some 30-35 qns. 99% of the qns are repeated from previous tests. Just go through the past 40 qn papers in this site. Thats more than enough. You neednt study RS Aggarwal.
Verbal:
This was the toughest section for me. It consists of 32 qns to be answered in 20 mins. Time flies like anything for this section. It has 10 synonyms, 10 antonyms, a reading comprehension with 6 qns, and a passage with 6 blanks where we have to insert the correct sentences from the choices. I just randomly marked the choices for the passage with blanks to be filled. I flunked the reading comprehension, got some 2-3 qns correct. While reading the comprehension , the page gets reloaded every 10 secs , so i had to scroll down again, which is kind of frustrating. Synonyms and Antonymns are from Barrons. Any edition of Barrons is enough for this. Go through the high frequency word list, and also the antonyms. I do agree that memorizing these words are difficult within a short span of time, but try ur maximum. The only words i remember which were asked are incorrigible and aegis (both in the synonym section).
Analytical Reasoning:
Take Barrons 12th edition and go through all of the model test papers(1-5). Omit the passages containing 1 or 2 qns. Study the pasages with 4 or more qns. The passages and qns are cut ,copy, paste from Barrons. Some times (rarely), they change the names.
I had gone through the previous 40 qn papers in this site and found out which passages were asked. They are:
Model test 1: Section5 - qns 1-4 (motorist), qns 13-16 (red and brown)
Section6 - qns 1-4 (conservative,democratic), qns 8-11 (latin, sanskrit), qns 12-18 (joe,larry,ned), qns 19-22 (a causes b)
Model test 2: Section1 - qns 19-22 (wallachia and rumelia) ---i got this qn, but the names were changed as london and paris, and a,b,c etc were changed as french, italian etc.
Section6 - qns 8-12 (ashland, liverpool), qns 13-16 (spelunker) ---i got this qn, qns 17-22 (pesth) ---i got this one too
Model test 3: Section6 - qns 1-4 (all Gs are Hs)
Model test 4: Section5 - qns 8-11 (horizontal row), qns 19-22 (a,b,c cause d)
Section6 - qns 8-12 (spanish, italian), qns 13-16 (all As, Bs), qns 17-22 (progressive federal party)
Model test 5: Section3 - qns8-11 (museum), qns 19-22 (A is the father)
Section7- qns 1-5 (prahtu, brahtu), qns 21-25 (scurvy)
Analytical section consists of 12 qns to be answered in 30 mins. Take care of this section because the qns have more weightage here. Even if u answer aptitude and verbal well, u can lose the test if u flunk this section.
PS: There is neither an upper cut off nor any dummy questions. They are just rumours. We asked them about dummy qns and they said there is nothin like that. Sometimes there will not be any right choice for a qn (eg: 384 to which base is 1234, choices are 5,6,7,8). In that case just mark any option.
I got all the 12 qns in this section and there was 16 minutes left. I clicked on the Exit button and saw the screen showing "Congratulations, u are qualified".
Interview:
In our college the tech and HR interviews were not separate. It was a combined one. The duration varied from 5 mins to 45 mins for certain candidates.
